Church Official Calls for Calm Amidst Wave of Violence in Southman

Simia 13, 779 WG: Early this afternoon renowned Pallisican Priest, Elder Endou Brew, appeared at the Temple of Southman, in order to give a sermon aimed at addressing the locals’ fears concerning an apparent wave of mysterious murders which has swept the province over the past few weeks.  Elder Brew, who is widely regarded for advocating the view that Pallisican nymphs should establish their own independent state, appeared in the temple’s garden, before a crowd of nearly 5,000 of the province’s religious practitioners.  In his sermon, Elder Brew expressed his belief that the congregation’s faith will be its greatest tool against the evils which exist in the province.

“With faith in the Eadem, the servants of the Great Keeper, who guards the Pathway between ours and the world of the Aead,” said Elder Brew, in his Sermon.  ” and with confidence and trust in the nation’s police and investigation agencies, and – most importantly  – with personal courage to remain steadfast in our own lives, against even the wickedest of adversaries, we shall find ourselves through this unfortunate time of darkness, as we have found ourselves through times of darkness before.”

Elder Brew, who achieved fame when he became the first ever Pallisican nymph to earn the title of Elder, arrived on appointment in New Zimia in 765 WG.  For fifteen years he has focused his efforts on uniting the New Zimian government and the Pallisican church over the goal of improving regional infrastructure in Northern Corum.  By working closely as an advisor to King Lucien IV, Brew played a direct hand in helping to inspire the Passio Corollary, which was issued four years ago.  In addition, Elder Brew has long expressed vocal support regarding autonomy for the province of Southman, which is home to a very large number of nymphs.  For these reasons, Brew is beloved by many people within New Zimia’s religious community.  Today’s sermon was well received by those who were there to hear it.

“The Elder has reminded us all of our power over the forces of evil,” said Ao Ye, a young woman who attended the sermon with her father, a silver miner, who’s second cousins is one of dozens those who have been mysteriously murdered in the past month.  Ao Ye would not comment on specific details of the case, which remains ongoing.  “It’s as [Elder Brew] says: ‘a little bit of evil cannot thrive in a place where there is much goodness.’  And so it is truly up to us, as the people of this province, to be the best we can, in order to dispel the wickedness which has fallen upon us.”

Twenty-two people have been murdered in the past month by an unknown culprit, who seems to strike at random at all times of the day and night, leaving no trace in its wake.  It is a widespread belief in the province that the perpetrator of the crimes is an aead, or a demon, who arrived from the Realm of Indigo through a channel opened by an inexperienced practitioner of the mystical arts.  Local police have not indicated as to whether they have any leads in the case, though they have stated that they are not ruling out any possibilities.
