Lucien IV Issues “Passio Corollary”

Semia 20, 775 WG: In a brief statement earlier this evening, King Lucien IV confirmed that he has approved plans to use the New Zimian Army to help in the creation of regional infrastructure in Northern Corum.  The King, in his statement, expressed his belief that as the leading power in the region, it is the responsibility of New Zimia to play an increased, active role in the development of infrastructure in the areas which are lacking, such as the Wallis Islands, Port Brent, and the city-state of Shirley.

“In order to secure political, economic, and social  stability in Northern Corum,” said the King, in his statement this evening.  “I have decided to apply our armed forces to the task developing a regional infrastructure in Northern Corum.  The primary aim of our forces will be to complete construction of well organized, well planned, highway and railway systems, which, once completed, will connect all of the region’s cities to one another.  In addition, we will aim to build top of the line schools and hospitals in every major city, where such facilities do not already exist.  Finally, we will extend to the various peoples of the region, the opportunity to officially gain representation under the banner of the Realm of Passio-Corum.”

Although specific details of the government’s plans have not been released, it has been confirmed that all but one of the army’s regiments will be deployed across the region.  Two regiments, the 20th Shoreline Cavalry and the 29th Highlands Infantry regiments have been deployed to the Wallis Islands, where they have been stationed previously, while the 22nd King’s Cavalry and the 6th Plains Infantry regiments have been deployed to the city-state of Shirley, to the Southwest of Port Brent, where three regiments have been deployed: the 19th Shoreline Cavalry, the 14th Shoreline Infantry, and the 13th Highlands Cavalry.  Only one regiment will remain within New Zimia during the duration of the effort, which is expected to last for at least  five years: the 1st King’s Cavalry, which is based in the capital city.  The navy, the King confirmed, will continue to patrol the region’s waterways in order to defend against pirates and other criminal elements.

In a poll conducted early last month, 68% of New Zimians expressed support for plans to use the military in efforts to increase the nation’s presence in the region.  The King, who enjoys very high approval ratings, is expected to receive widespread support for the plans which he announced today.
